From obligation to primary benefit: Occupational health and safety policy redefined

A recent article by Rijksoverheid shows there is limited compliance with Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E) compliance: a study shows that half of companies do not comply with the standards. As the fines are rising, IT systems are needed to keep processes involved up to date.

Companies that do not have a Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E) are now facing higher fines than before. This is one of the consequences of a stricter compliance with the Working Conditions Act. The Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate is authorized to fine companies immediately when the absence of an RI&E is noted. In addition, the amount of this fine may in certain cases be almost 40% higher than the current amount.

“There is no longer a warning: without a corresponding plan of action with an overview of the points for improvement, the absence of an RI&E can result in a fine.”

Research done by the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate shows that almost half of the companies obliged to have an RI&E, actually fail to have one at all. Moreover, almost 40% of the companies that do possess one, appear to have an incomplete RI&E. There is no longer a warning: without a corresponding plan of action with an overview of the points for improvement, the absence of an RI&E can result in a fine. This is to prevent companies from waiting until their first warning.
